What Is Camp BEE?

Camp BEE (Building Empowered Expression) is a specialized apraxia-focused summer camp created for children diagnosed with — or suspected of having — Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).

Our mission is simple:
to empower children to communicate with confidence while having fun in a supportive, inclusive environment.

At Camp BEE, speech therapy doesn’t feel like “therapy.” It feels like play.

What Is Childhood Apraxia of Speech?

Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a neurological speech disorder that affects a person's ability to plan and coordinate the movements needed for speech. Individuals born with CAS do not outgrow the disorder; progress comes only through evidence-based treatment using the principles of motor learning. Age does not lead to improvement.

This is why Camp BEE is so passionate about educating families and providing support for our campers with CAS.

Testimonials from Past Camp Families

"Camp BEE was such a meaningful experience for my daughter and I. From day one, it was obvious how much the SLP volunteers truly cared about every child. They made therapy engaging, personalized, and fun. My daughter and I loved connecting with other campers and parents and building friendships with people who truly understand our journey. That sense of connection is something you simply can’t put a price on."

Kim, Apraxia Mom

"Camp BEE was such an amazing time for my daughter! She really loved it and became besties with her SLP that was with her for the week in the classroom. She was able to meet new people and enjoyed games and activities. It was wonderful getting to meet other families with kids like mine. Really looking forward to the next camp!"

Apraxia Parent

"My daughter looked forward to camp every day. There were tears on the last day because she didn’t want it to end. That says it all. Jordan and Mikayla were fantastic to work with, and we are so grateful for their care, expertise, and encouragement. I highly recommend Camp BEE to any family seeking a supportive and impactful Apraxia speech camp."

Our Approach

Children with CAS learn best through consistent, individualized, and engaging motor-based therapy — and that’s exactly what Camp BEE provides.

Each child receives:

  • Support from trained speech-language professionals and caring counselors
  • A safe, encouraging space where communication is celebrated at every level
  • Individualized one-to-one motor speech therapy provided by a licensed speech-language pathologist using pull-out intervention methods
  • Carryover of targeted speech and communication goals integrated throughout group activities and during vendor visits
  • Facilitation of peer social interactions to support friendship development and positive social communication skills

We meet children where they are and help them build skills step by step.

Parents are Part of the Journey

Camp BEE doesn’t stop at drop-off.

We partner with families by providing:

  • Daily updates on your child’s progress
  • Practical strategies you can use at home
  • Education and support to help you feel confident advocating for your child

Because progress happens fastest when parents are empowered, too.

What is the Primary Focus of Camp BEE?

Camp BEE's primary focus is to foster peer-to-peer relationships and social interactions, provide education and resources to families, and create joyful, meaningful memories through fun and play while delivering evidence-based treatment models.

Children participate in multiple brief one-to-one speech therapy sessions lasting 15-20 minutes. While speech therapy is an important component of Camp BEE, we are thoughtful about setting realistic expectations for progress.

Because childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) requires intensive, long-term intervention, growth happens over time. Camp BEE is designed to equip children and families with foundational motor speech skills, knowledge, and resources that support continued progress well beyond the camp experience.

Camp BEE is designed for:

  • Children ages 3-9

  • Children diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech

  • Children suspected of having CAS

  • Families seeking specialized, supportive, and evidence-based care

No child is expected to “fit a mold." We honor each child’s unique communication journey.
