About Us

Built With Heart, Purpose, and Understanding

A supportive, inclusive camp designed to help children with communication differences build confidence, connection, and joy.

About Camp BEE

Camp BEE was created to be a place where children with communication differences feel supported, understood, and empowered to grow—at their own pace.

We believe that when children are met with patience, structure, and genuine connection, confidence follows. Camp BEE blends purposeful play, social connection, and communication-supportive practices into an environment where kids can be themselves while building meaningful skills.

Our goal is simple: to create a camp experience that honors each child’s individuality while supporting growth in a way that feels safe, joyful, and achievable.

Why Camp BEE Exists

Many traditional camp environments are not designed with communication differences in mind. Camp BEE was intentionally built to bridge that gap—offering a setting that is inclusive, affirming, and thoughtfully structured.

We focus on:

  • Creating predictable routines that reduce anxiety
  • Encouraging social connection without pressure
  • Supporting communication in all forms
  • Celebrating strengths, interests, and individuality

Every child comes to Camp BEE with their own voice, story, and way of engaging with the world. We’re here to support that—not change it.

Meet the Founders

Camp BEE was co-founded by Jordan LeVan and Mikayla Treynor, who connected through their shared commitment to supporting children with communication differences and their families. Together, they bring a powerful blend of lived experience and professional expertise to the program.

Jordan LeVan

Jordan LeVan

Jordan LeVan is a national disability rights advocate, author, tutor, and public speaker with lived experience in Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). Classified as nonverbal until age eight, Jordan experienced significant literacy challenges due to limited access to appropriate supports and widespread misunderstanding of CAS. He is now a reading tutor trained in Orton-Gillingham instruction.

Jordan founded Fighting For My Voice LLC, where he provides parent coaching, advocacy services, consultative support, and professional education. He delivers school district trainings, specializes in Childhood Apraxia of Speech education, lectures at colleges and universities for speech-language pathology students, and speaks nationally to families, educators, clinicians, and organizations. Jordan has written five children’s books based on his personal experiences growing up with CAS and is the founder of The Apraxia Foundation, which focuses on increasing access to speech services, AAC devices, and advancing systemic change for individuals with apraxia across the lifespan.

Jordan’s lived experience ensures that Camp BEE is shaped by the voices of those who truly understand what it means to navigate communication differences.

Mikayla Treynor

Mikayla Treynor, M.A. SLP/L

Mikayla Treynor is a licensed speech-language pathologist and the founder of Sandy Speaks Therapy, an in-home speech therapy practice serving children throughout Metro Detroit. Sandy Speaks Therapy was created in honor of Mikayla’s late mother and is rooted in her belief that every child deserves compassionate, ethical, and individualized care.

Mikayla brings experience from a wide variety of settings, including leadership roles in medical facilities as a Director of Rehabilitation within skilled nursing and subacute ventilator hospital units. In these environments, she supported individuals with complex medical needs, helping patients return to eating safely and communicate through the use of speaking valves for individuals with tracheostomies. This background gives her a deep understanding of how medical, communication, and feeding needs intersect. Mikayla specializes in supporting children with:

  • Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS)
  • Gestalt language processing
  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
  • Dysphagia (feeding and swallowing challenges)

Beyond therapy, Mikayla is also a disability rights advocate through Fighting for My Voice LLC, as well as an advocate for ethical standards within the field of speech-language pathology. She is passionate about empowering families and fellow speech-language pathologists, collaborating with care teams, and ensuring children receive the services and support they need to thrive.

Our Philosophy

At Camp BEE, we believe:

  • Communication is not one-size-fits-all

  • Every child deserves to be heard—whether through speech, AAC, or other forms of expression

  • Growth happens best in environments built on trust, respect, and joy

Camp BEE is not about fixing children—it’s about supporting them, celebrating who they are, and creating space for confidence to grow.
